Castrocaro and its SPA
Land of Sun and Water
In the heart of Romagna, 10 km from Forlì, lies Castrocaro Terme, a spa and holiday town in which different landscapes and works tell of the atmospheres of days gone by and the vicissitudes that have marked the history of the ancient village.
The impressive medieval fortress stands out among the more recent constructions, which are however worth noting: Palazzo Piancastelli for instance, along with the Padiglione delle Feste and the Grand Hotel in the Spa Park.
The neighbouring Medici town of Terra del Sole retains its original symmetrical plan, built around Piazza d’Armi and surrounded by the fortified walls. In 1830, professor Antonio Targioni Tozzetti discovered the iodine and bromide contained in the local mineral waters, which began to be used for therapeutic purposes.
Since then, the name of Castrocaro has been associated with the effectiveness of its spa treatments and cures.
The Italian Touring Club has assigned the town the prestigious “Orange Flag” for harmony, uniformity and good conservation of the old-town, a rich choice of tourist accommodation, meticulous attention to green areas and urban furnishings, and a rich and diversified events calendar.
